Hitachi has developed a nearly indestructible way to store data. So resistant to damage that it could last for 100 million years.
My thoughts? If it’s so indestructible then it can’t be good for the environment. My first thought was to compare this to disposable diapers. Imagine millions of years later, the only things left on the Earth are these little squares of data and roaches. Oh, and disposable diapers.
I’m becoming a firm believer that everything shouldn’t last forever. We do not need to keep everything, nor do we need to remember everything. Rediscovery is as great a discovery.
