PowerPoint is not evil

PowerPoint

PowerPointI’m growing a bit tired of people slamming PowerPoint as a bad software program. They claim it is the root of all presentation evil. Hello! A tool is a tool.

An object is neither good nor evil. It is all about how the person uses it. I do agree that people do not use it well. In fact, most presenters use it horribly. But that is because they lack the creativity to go beyond the built-in templates. Do great architects just use the blueprints given to them? No, they expand upon them and make them better. Or they scrap them and create their own. And that is what presenters need to do. They should not limit themselves to the confines of a template. One template (or even the built-in templates) does not fit all presentations. Change it, enhance or create something that does match the presentation. It is your presentation. Own it! So the next time someone says PowerPoint is evil, ask them “Why did you let it become that way?”
