A personal growth plan is a framework to guide some decisions that you make in life. It can be related to your job, school, relationships, self-improvement, etc. Having a growth plan is beneficial if you want to be more strategic in achieving your goals.

If you’re looking to achieve a personal technology goal, having a growth plan will make achieving your goal easier. It will help outline what to do to achieve your goal and prevent wasting precious time and energy. There are four things you should consider to ensure your personal growth plan will be successful.

Writing a Personal Growth Plan

There are four components to a good personal growth plan: your Growth Focus, Practice, Feedback, and Measuring Success. You should indicate how you will do each of these in your plan.

  1. Growth Focus – It is important to be specific about the growth you want to accomplish. For example, saying, “I want to become more patient while using my computer,” is easier to plan than “I don’t want computers to frustrate me.”

  2. Practice – Getting better at anything requires practice. Change is hard to do unless the action becomes a habit. This is done by practice or focused and intentional repetition. This can also mean stopping bad habits. Some ways to include practice in your plan could be journaling your thoughts, repeating affirmations, or stopping to recognize self-defeating thoughts.

  3. Feedback –Feedback is also crucial to positive change. It helps to understand your progress and how close you are to your goal. In your plan, make sure you have a strategy for gathering feedback on your progress. This may be regular talks with a supporter or your coach.

  4. Measuring Success – It is important to know the goal line to achieve success. You have to define what success looks like for you. What will you do, and where will you be by the end of the process? You can measure your success in various ways – it can be new thoughts or feelings that occur or new habits that you form.

Example Personal Growth Plan

I want to think of computers as helpful tools rather than annoying burdens.

Identify what will be the focus of growth.

Each day, I will reflect/journal how my computer helped me accomplish a task.

Identify how the area will be practiced.

I will send my notes to my coach and ask for feedback.

Identify how feedback will be given on the progression of the area.

I will be successful when I no longer dread using a computer.

Identify how the development of the area will be successful.

Now, that you have the framework, go write your goal! You can also download this reference guide to have by your side as you craft your goals. Don’t worry, it’s free.
