Editor's note: This is an opinion post from one of our techxperts, Mistral, as a follow up to our LDL Talk on AI from Feb 20th.
There’s a lot of discourse about how AI has affected the content creation space (text, images, audio, video, etc.). People and businesses praise how easy it makes it to create designs using AI and how fast the photo editing process has become with it.
However, AI has some caveats. On a technical level, the AI work is still not perfect. In search results, sometimes the AI summary is incorrect. And in AI generated images, there are often blatant errors in details such as hands, text, or background faces. Some people have found that when they try to erase something from the background, AI adds a person in.
On an ethical level, some AI engines have been trained on artists’ work without their consent, producing work with a similar style and not crediting those artists. Some companies have also opted to create their designs using AI instead of hiring and paying human artists.
Scarier still are the stories of people creating AI videos using someone’s face without their permission, opening up many concerns as we have more and more photos and videos of ourselves online.
So while there are some benefits in how AI seems to make things happen instantaneously, there are valid concerns about how it achieves these end results. I will always believe in the importance of learning how to manually create and edit before using shortcuts because if the “shortcut” malfunctions you’ll still need to know how to correct it. It is so much more satisfying to know you have mastered these skills.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Feel free to them in the comments below.
