My philosophy is that technology is a tool, just like a hammer or pencil. Digital devices enable us to do things faster and better than if we were to do it ourselves. But that is what they are tools. We don’t sleep with a hammer by our bed. Nor do we constantly check our pencils to see if they have written something. There is a time and place that these tools are useful without being in the way. The same goes for our digital devices. We must remind ourselves (and teach our children) that there is a time and place for these devices and they do not define us. We are human for many biological reasons, not because we can use a digital device. Take away those devices and we are still human, no less than we were with them. So I challenge you to disconnect, forget your phone, and enjoy what’s makes us human.
